Hello! I'm James Gent and welcome to my cyber-pad. Sorry the place is such a state, but if you're like me I'm sure you're used to slumming it every once in a while. Pull up a pouffe (if you'll excuse the expression), fix yourself a Bloody Mary, chuck a longplayer on the gramophone, light up a Gitane, and make yourself at home.

In here you can find pages covering things of interest to me in the worlds of film, TV, music and literature. Some of the selections are a bit leftfield so hopefully you might discover something new. Whatever you think, do share your opinions with me on the message board or email me!

To tell you a little about myself... (yawn) I'm twenty-six and have recently been working as an admin assistant in Pembroke Dock since moving back home to Wales last month. I was born in Plymouth but grew up here in Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire.

Between July 1991 and September 1995 I ran a Monty Python fanzine called "And Now For Something Completely Different" (it must have taken me ages to think of the name). This folded when I went to University, but due to a resurgence of interest (and back issues turning up on eBay for ten dollars) I have begun archiving it on the internet. It's not yet fully up and running but you can find out more about it at Flogging A Dead Parrot

From 1995 to 1998 I studied English Literature at Loughborough University. During my time there I was involved in student union activities - a writer and music editor for the student magazine Label and chairman of Subculture, the Indie & Alternative Music Society, which was - at one point during my time on the committee - one of the union's most successful non-athletic clubs and societies

I stayed in Loughborough for another four years after graduating, during which time I worked for various periods of time at Andy's Records, Ottakars Bookstore, and most recently for Loughborough Youth Affairs as a part-time youth development officer. I also did some freelance work for Leicestershire Youth Arts, creating a Youth Schools Theatre Workshop guide to "Twelfth Night". I have just finished studying a City & Guilds Initial Certificate in Teaching Adults Basic Communication Skills at Loughborough College.

I spend my recreational time indulging in creative loafing, reading, scouring for bargains and obsolete crap in secondhand shops and bric a brac fares (best find ever - a Stylophone, with Rolf Harris demo record, booklet and guarantee - for twenty quid in the Salvation Army!), writing, mountain biking and swimming; and I am currently putting together a small zine called ACCIONE MUTANTE. I'm pitching it as a kind of 'anti-lifestyle' magazine, with irreverent intelligent articles, reviews and criticism and some creative stuff thrown in too; just to go against the grain of the Big Brother watching, Heat magazine reading no-brow mass culture we live in. Hopefully I might be able to give people a taster of things on this site as material gets up and running. If this sounds like something you might be interested in being involved in, drop me a line.

Have fun lounging in my cyber-pad and don't forget to drop by again after hours. There's a lot of stuff to read and look at, and some links to good web sites, and I hope to add new stuff as often as I can.

Toodle-pip!
